Special Projects

CCSU’s Dept. of Journalism works hard to ensure students have various opportunities to practice their journalism skills. In particular, we pride ourselves on our international curriculum and the work students produce when they join us for special projects during a study abroad.


Most Recent Projects

May 2023 – Our journalism students traveled to France in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics to explore the city and country as it prepares for this important event. View CCSU in Paris to see what they learned.

Ongoing Projects
  • Starting as part of a spring 2020 class and published in June 2020, CCSU journalism students worked in collaboration with UCLan students in the U.K. to produce The Pandemic Report. The department will continue to post students’ work on the pandemic as it continues to impact our lives.
  • Students in CCSU’s Department of Journalism began a new podcast, In Context, in the fall of 2019. This student-produced project can be found on SoundCloud or on iTunes Podcasts.
  • The department launched a  student-led reporting project on mental health on April 12, 2018. Focus Mental Health, fmhnews.com, will be an ongoing look at mental health issues on campus and in the state of Connecticut. Read our Editor’s Note for more information.

Spring 2018 – CCSU Journalism students were in both Ireland and Northern Ireland over spring break to explore what makes these two countries that share an island and name unique. Check out what students found while there.

Spring 2016 – CCSU Journalism students traveled to Cuba to see how life is changing after the newly dropped travel embargo. Visiting the same week as both Pres. Obama and the Rollings Stones, these students, nevertheless, were able to capture the daily life of Cubans in the capital city of Havana. The magazine, Cuba in Transition, is the outcome of their work.
